My wife’s primary doctor is and has been giving Soma for her painful monthly minstrels. Has anyone heard of women taking this for this reason?
MISTY
I have not ever heard nor read about soma being used to handle irregular or painful menstrual periods. I have used it only for sleep problems. The only thing I can think of as reasoning for using it would be to induce a sleep state. The only suggestion I have is that your wife should select another doctor quickly so that she gets proper medical care. Good luck!
Soma is a skeletal muscle relaxant that is typically used in musculoskeletal conditions - like back injuries, etc., that cause acute pain or muscle spasms. I am an orthopedic nurse so I see it used for these types of conditions. I guess if it works for her then the benefits out way the risks but there are many side effects possible with this drug (like any drug). I am not an advocate for people taking any medication without a serious need for it. For this to be prescribed I would think that more conservative methods were not working. I don’t know how often it’s used in a gynecological setting but since it was made for muscles that are moved by or attached to the skeleton it seems unusual.
soma is a mucsle relaxer, I dont know of anyone who takes it for that reason but if she has cramps I can see how they would work. It can be very addicting! I know because I was perscibed them and got hooked. If to large of dose is taken you will notice shaking, stumbleling, sluring of speech and sleeping. Make sure she takes them with full stomach this will slow things down and you dont get the buzz as much.
