Plavix and Coumadin are both anticoagulants but work differently, that is why doctors warn people on coumadin about increasing their intake of vitamin K found in many vegetables, but don’t warn people on Plavix. My mother was on Plavix for three years and was never told to avoid green vegetables or Vitamin K. Also when I searched websites for both medications the Plavix sites did not mention limiting vegetables or vitamin K. The pharmacy should have given you a printout of side affects and interactions to the medication. Read that for information or call your doctor or pharmacist.
The previous poster is correct. Coumadin thins the blood by blocking an enzyme that uses Vitamin K to activate members of the clotting cascade. Plavix works blocking the ability of platelets to stick together. They are very, very different in their mode of action. Coumadin works very well but is difficult to control while Plavix is much easier.
