Flecks is a 9 year old German Shorthaired Pointer. I have had her since she was about 9 months old. She was found as a stray and had 4 years of obedience and agility, and was constantly interactive in our family life. But here’s the catch. She licks her legs… almost constantly. I have tried everything possible I can think of to get her to stop. Short of having her walk around with a cone on her head the rest of her life (she would probably lick that too) I haven’t come up with a solution that has worked. She’s licked of every bit of nasty-tasting stuff I’ve tried with a grimace on her face, but still licked away. Now she has started taking it a step further and has started licking her belly, the couch, my bed sheets, the carpet, the dog bed, just about everything! I’m going nuts just listening to her lick! I can usually get a short reprieve if I yell “Flecks, quit!” in a stage whisper, but I have literally had to hold her face away from her body and waited till her tongue stops in order to get her to stop at times. “Doggy prozac” did not seem to help. Now that she will be retiring as my service dog soon, I don’t know how I will deal with the separation anxiety on top of the licking. The two of us are both going to end up going nuts! Any reasonable suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
She loves rawhide bones and can go through one within a couple hours easily. And then it is back to licking. When we play “attack dog” (lots of vicious growling and hand holding with no actual biting and excited running. She also stops on command…), she will literally stop in the middle to lick her legs. Chew toys and rawhides are not always enough of a distraction.

I have tried several muscle relaxers (flexeril, soma, baclofen, robaxin) with no help! Skelaxin and Tizanidine have been prescribed but they are not covered. I have been on Klonopin which helped a little bit. Any suggestions?

I am wondering if triple dose lithium or prozac is in order.
In all seriousness, I saw Laura Bush on TV, and for the first time ever, I felt ok with her, like she was my aunt. I din’t feel any animosity. And then I thought to Bush himself, and I felt no hatred either. I felt as if I’d had an epiphany, but I couldn’t name what had changed.

Fioricet contains tylenol, caffeine, butalbital. Its sister drug, Fiorinal is schedule III. The only difference is fioricet contains tylenol as a component while fiorinal instead has aspirin. This is not a valid reason for the unscheduling of fioricet. Both contain the same habit forming drug, butalbital. Can someone please explain.

You just finished sprinting a 100 meter race, and feel pain in the muscles in your legs. What’s causing the pain is the lactic acid that is built up in your muscle cells. My question is how does your body get rid of that pain in your muscles?
